The History of Orla Kiely

Orla Kiely was born in Dublin, Ireland where her creativity was noticed regularly from a young age. She attended the National College of Art in Dublin before moving across to New York to work for a wallpaper and fabric designer. Orla Kiely then moved across to England to study for a Masters at the Royal College of Art in London. During her exit show at the Royal College of Art she displayed a number of hats which were purchased by Harrods. At first Kiely continued to design hats, but switched to handbags after her father mentioned to her after her first London Fashion Week that everyone was carrying a bag but no-one was wearing a hat.
