Following this, in 1926, Walter Vogt joins forces with John Harwood, the inventor of the first ever automatic movement, to start the world’s first mass production. The first automatic watch in the world. The 1940s brought along the Fortissimo, the brands first (and one of the worlds first) water-resistant watches. In the 1960s, Fortis expanded its horizons and embarked on a new frontier: space. The brand became an official supplier to the Russian space program and provided watches for cosmonauts. The Fortis Spacematic was the first automatic watch worn in space during the 1994 Russian Mir-18 mission, further solidifying Fortis's reputation as a trusted companion in extreme conditions.
